Nanaimo’s Western Edge Theatre is calling for video auditions by actors on central Vancouver Island for its upcoming New Waves Festival, featuring safely-conducted staged readings of new plays by area playwrights. Video submissions should consist of a monologue or other spoken piece (prepared or read) under two minutes in length, and begin with a short introduction of yourself and your theatre experience, if any.
Workshops will be held in early January remotely, with staged readings in early February. The current plan is to live stream the staged readings without an audience, all public health protocols to be followed. A fee will be paid for participation, and all submissions will be kept on file for future consideration, including for productions in our mainstage season.
We strongly encourage artists whom we haven’t seen, those with little or no experience, and those who identify as coming from underrepresented communities to apply. If you have barriers to accessing any part of our process as laid out, please don’t hesitate to reach out to us and we will find a way to best serve you.
Please send your video file to auditions@westernedge.org. Deadline is December 15th, 2020.
If you wish to use an excerpt from one of the workshop plays as your audition piece, we’ll be happy to provide one. Contact us at auditions@westernedge.org.
