Nanaimo’s Western Edge Theatre has launched a new play initiative for writers from central Vancouver Island.

Writers are welcome to submit new plays of any length. One script will be chosen to receive a $250 prize, development by Western Edge, including a staged reading as part of the company’s popular Plays & Pie series, and consideration for full production.

“Western Edge continues to encourage and support the work of area writers,” says Western Edge artistic director Brian March. “Through the years, we have workshopped and produced many local scripts and with this latest endeavour hope to reach more of the same.”

Scripts must be unproduced and not adapted from another work. There is no entry fee. Deadline for submissions is July 1st, 2020.

Scripts may be emailed as an attachment to, and should include the writer’s name and contact information. Electronic submission is preferred, but hard copies may be mailed to:playwright
